Kathleen Horvath

Kathleen HorvathDr. 凯萨琳一. Horvath, Associate Professor of String Education and Pedagogy joined the Case faculty in 2001. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the Eastman School of Music (Double 低音), a Master of 艺术 in Performance and String Pedagogy and Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education from The 俄亥俄州 State University. Her duties on campus include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Music Education and teaching double bass to CWRU students as a Double 低音 Instructor at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Prior to joining the faculty at CWRU Dr. Horvath was on the faculty of the University of Illinois where she taught courses in string pedagogy and music education. Additionally, she taught public school strings and band in 纽约, Massachusetts, 俄亥俄州, 和格鲁吉亚.

Her research is primarily focused on the prevention of performance related injuries through correct positioning of the body and the accompanying teaching methodology that facilitates accurate technical development. She is very active as a guest conductor, 评判员, and clinician, having worked with district, 区域, 全州, and festival orchestras in Alaska, 阿肯色州, 乔治亚州, Massachusetts, 新泽西, 纽约, 俄亥俄州, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and South Carolina. She has presented at local, 状态, 国家, and inter国家 conferences on string pedagogy, double bass instructional materials, 健康, and assessment. This past February she was the featured presenter at the Streicherklassen Kongress at he Landesmusikakademie NRW in Heek, 德国.

Her journal publications include articles and reviews in Music Educators Journal, 三合会, 滚动, 低音的世界, American String Teacher, Council of 研究 in Music Education, and the Southeastern Journal of Music Education. She has served as Double 低音 editor and contributor to the String Syllabus for the last three editions. Her book contributions include sections in volumes 1, 2 and 3 of Teaching Music Through Performance in Orchestra and a chapter in the Applications of 研究 to String Education. She also has authored a two - volume string class method book entitled New 方向 for Strings and a companion text, A Scale in Time, with Joanne Erwin, Brenda Mitchell, and Robert McCashin.

Dr. Horvath continues to actively perform on the Double 低音 in both the chamber music and orchestral settings. This summer she will return to 纽约 as principal bassist to perform with the Most艺术 Festival Orchestra.
