Art History Thesis Presentation
2024 Art History Thesis Presentation by Lio Bonaccio Friday April 26th, 2:30-3:30 pm in Binns-Merrill 106. Refreshments will be served!Lio Bonaccio will explore the decolonization of Indigenous portrait photography by analyzing contemporary Diné photographer Will Wilson's Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange/Talking Tintypes (2012-present) alongside colonial anthropologist photographer Edward S. Curtis's North American Indian Project (1896-1930). Ultimately the modern portrayal of the Indigenous sitter has been revolutionized through Wilson's lens through his use of collaboration, thus amplifying Indigenous agency, dimensionality, and authenticity.
